Assessment Guide

Annexe 3

An example of a formal written test based upon contextualised tasks

LEVELS 1 AND 2

At Levels 1 and 2, there is an emphasis on the under-pinning skills associated with each Key Skill.

Questions will consist of 'machine markable', multiple choice and multiple response items, each item counting for 1 mark. You will be required to complete your answers on an objective test answer sheet by circling your choice of answer.

Primarily, these tests will address the application of the knowledge, skills and understanding of each Key Skill in everyday situations. In the main, the items are clustered around a series of common themes designed to provide a realistic context or focus, to encourage you to select and apply your skills.

Each test will be set at a specified level and will be reported on a pass/fail basis. The tests are scheduled to last 1 hour; the use of dictionaries or electronic calculators will not be allowed. An example of the type of questions set, in this case at level 2, is given below.

COMMUNICATION - LEVEL 2:Example of Questions

Questions 1-3 are based on the document about Midland Holiday Choice points. Read the document carefully.

MIDLAND HOLIDAY CHOICE

Why pay the full cost of your holiday - when you can make great savings with your Choice points?

Using your Choice points is a perfect way to reduce the cost of your holiday. You can save money on the whole holiday - including extras like flights and care hire.

There are thousands of holidays to choose from - in fact you can select your holiday from 650 different brochures. Just choose the holiday that's right for you. Then call Thomas Cook with your holiday details and state the number of Choice points you would like to redeem. That's all there is to it.

How to work out how much you would save on your holiday using your Choice points.
